Total Motown

Total Motown is a five-disc, 100-track compilation from the U.K.'s Spectrum label. Even if it's purchased as an import, it provides a cheap way to obtain a significant portion of the label's biggest hits -- and some of its lesser-known cult faves -- from the mid-'60s through the mid-'80s. Martha & the Vandellas' "Dancing in the Street," Barrett Strong's "Money (That's What I Want)," the Temptations' "My Girl," the Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love," the Four Tops' "Standing in the Shadows of Love," Commodores' "Easy," and Rick James' "Super Freak" are among the biggest hits offered here. The mid- to late-'70s get something of a short shrift, but that's a minor gripe for an extensive, cheap set like this one.
