Around 9 a.m. yesterday (Jan 25), a white BYD sedan was charging at a charging station on Lam Hing Street located in Kowloon Bay when suddenly the charging point caught fire and sounds of explosion were heard.
The 53-year-old female driver, surnamed Lau, who was waiting for the sedan to be charged, was surprised and urgently contacted the police for assistance while leaving the vehicle.
Firefighters were alerted to the scene and swiftly extinguished the fire.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigation by firefighters suggests that an electrical short circuit within the charging unit was the likely cause of the fire, and no foul play was suspected.
Photographs from the scene were also found on social media, showing a white sedan with visible flames under its chassis and another image showing the front of a vehicle severely charred.
